What Are Wire Conveyor Belts?
Wire conveyor belts are made of interlocking metal spirals and transverse cross rods, forming a mesh construction. They are used when transporting materials through an environment with a high or low temperature, when air or liquid needs to pass freely through the belt, or when the product is subjected to a chemical or other type of aggressive treatment.
They find application mainly in food processing (freezers, ovens, washing lines), the glass and wood-working industries, chemical production, paper manufacturing and other sectors requiring air/liquid permeability and temperature or chemical resistance.
Types of Construction
Depending on the spiral and cross-rod construction, wire conveyor belts are available in 4 main types.

| Type | Construction |
|---|---|
| TL1 | Conveyor belt of left and right spirals and straight cross rods |
| TL2 | Conveyor belt of left and right spirals and folded cross rods |
| TL3 | Conveyor belt of right spirals (no cross rods) |
| TL5 | Conveyor belt of double right spirals and straight cross rods |
Parameters Required for Ordering
The following dimensions must be specified for the production of a wire conveyor belt, depending on the selected construction type.

| Type | Required Parameters |
|---|---|
| TL1 | Diameter of spirals; diameter of cross rods; spacing of cross rods; width of belt |
| TL2 | Diameter of spirals; diameter of cross rods; spacing of cross rods; pitch of spirals; width of belt |
| TL3 | Diameter of spirals; mesh aperture; width of belt |
| TL5 | Diameter of spirals; diameter of cross rods; spacing of cross rods; pitch of spirals; width of belt |
Belt Edges
Wire conveyor belts are supplied with one of the following three edge finishes, depending on the mounting method and conveyor requirements.

| Edge Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Button up | The belt edge is closed by buttoning up the last spiral |
| Curved | The belt edge finishes with a curved (rolled) spiral |
| Welded | The belt edge is welded for extra strength and stability |

What applications are wire conveyor belts suitable for?
Suitable wherever air, liquid or heat needs to pass through the belt — freezer and oven tunnels in food processing, glass washing, wood drying, chemical treatment and paper manufacturing.
Which construction type (TL1–TL5) should I choose?
The choice depends on the required mesh openness and load direction. TL1 and TL2 are the most common for general conveying applications; TL3 offers the simplest, lightest construction without cross rods; TL5 with double spirals provides higher cross rigidity for heavier loads.
What data do I need to provide to order a custom belt?
Spiral diameter, cross-rod diameter (where applicable), cross-rod spacing or spiral pitch, and belt width — the exact parameters depend on the selected type (see table above).
What edge finish options are available?
Three options — button up, curved or welded edges — the choice depends on the mounting method on the conveyor and the required joint strength.
