What Are Fasteners and Staples for Belt Repair?

Fasteners and staples are mechanical splicing systems for conveyor belts — an alternative to a vulcanized or glued joint. They are installed directly on site with basic tools (a hammer, screwdriver or staple press), with no need for specialized equipment or the curing downtime that vulcanization requires.

Their main advantage is speed: when a belt joint fails or wears out in operation, a mechanical splice allows a quick on-site repair and minimal conveyor downtime, instead of waiting for a mobile vulcanizing press or replacing the entire belt.

Types

We offer two main types of mechanical splice, differing in fastening principle and recommended belt thickness.

Bolt Fasteners

Metal plates clamping both ends of the belt with screws or bolts. Available in three sizes depending on belt thickness.

Belt Staples

Metal staples with a row of teeth, driven transversely through both belt ends for a fast mechanical splice. The number and length of teeth are selected according to belt thickness.

For What Purpose / Who Are They Suitable For?

Suitable for any industry using conveyor belts where downtime is costly or repair must be done immediately on site — mining, quarries, agriculture, woodworking, general manufacturing. Used for both temporary and permanent repair of PVC, PU and rubber conveyor belts in the 5–21 mm thickness range.

FAQ — Fasteners and Staples for Belt Repair

When should I choose a mechanical splice instead of a vulcanized joint?

A mechanical splice is suitable for emergency on-site repair, when the conveyor needs to be restarted quickly, or when access to a mobile vulcanizing press is limited. A vulcanized joint remains more durable for permanent, long-term use on heavily loaded belts.

How do I choose the right fastener or staple size?

Selection is based on belt thickness — see the tables above. For bolt fasteners, thickness determines the size in inches (1", 1 1/2", 2"); for staples, thickness determines the tooth length in mm.

Can fasteners and staples be installed without special tools?

Bolt fasteners require only basic hand tools (a wrench or screwdriver). Belt staples are typically driven in with a hammer or a manual/pneumatic staple press — faster, but requiring suitable installation tooling.

What types of belts are they suitable for?

Suitable for PVC, PU and rubber conveyor belts with a thickness of 5 to 21 mm — the standard thickness range for most light- and medium-duty conveyor belts supplied by Nibora.
