What is a SIMOTOP brake electric motor?
The SIMOTOP brake electric motor (MSB, MSFC and MSFHC series) is an IEC three-phase motor with integrated electromagnetic disc brake — no additional mechanical brakes required. Stopping time 0.05 to 0.3 seconds.
MSFC and MSFHC series operate on the fail-safe principle — when power is cut, the disc brake engages automatically. Mandatory for lifting equipment per EN 14492.

Who are they for?
- Lifting equipment — small hoists, overhead cranes, monorails, chain hoists
- Inclined conveyors — brake motor holds the load when power is cut
- Packaging machines — precise positioning on motor stop
- Medical equipment with fast locking requirements
- Any application requiring fast or safe motor stopping

How does the electromagnetic brake work?
During normal operation the electromagnet holds the disc brake open — the motor runs freely. When power is cut, springs press the brake disc and stop the motor within 0.05–0.3 seconds.
MSFC (Fail-Safe Compact) and MSFHC (Fail-Safe Heavy-duty) — on any power interruption, planned or emergency, the brake engages automatically.

Difference between MSB, MSFC and MSFHC?
MSB — standard brake on signal. MSFC — fail-safe, engages when power is off. MSFHC — reinforced fail-safe with higher braking torque.
How fast does the brake motor stop?
0.05 to 0.3 seconds — much faster than natural rundown of a standard motor (3–10 sec.).
Special control required with frequency inverter?
Yes — a separate brake control contact is needed when operating with VFD.
Available mounting types?
In stock: B5 (large flange). On request: B3 and B14.
Brake maintenance?
The friction disc is a wear part. At up to 20 stops/hour — disc life 3–5 years.
